Description

The 10-pin IDC breakout board (BOB), shown above in Photo 1, provides a convenient way of connecting and testing devices that are wired with 10-pin (2 by 5) IDC connectors.

One use of the BOB, as described in the YACC project description, is to apply power and check pin signals on the YACC2 board. Schematic 1 shows the breakout board schematic and its use in YACC2 testing.

You can download Schematic 1 as a zip file.

Another application for the BOB is providing screw-down connections for port pins on the 310/361 development test fixture. The MUTE project description provides photos of the test fixture. The 310/361 test fixture was designed so that connections for each port are brought out to a 10-pin shrouded IDC connector with connections that are compatible with those used for Silicon Laboratories development and Target boards. Thus, the BOBZ-1 breakout can provide access to port pins for applications such as connecting indicator LEDs and monitoring 3.3 Volt power.

Features and Specifications

The breakout board measures approximately 2 1/2 by 1 1/8 inches (64 by 29 mm). The pad spacing for the screw down terminals is 0.2 tenths of an inch. An additional row of 0.156 inch spaced pads is also available for connectors with this spacing. Normally, these pads are used for wire connections. The photo shows a bare wire loop soldered to the first (square) pad of the 0.156 inch row of pads to serve as a convenient ground connection point.

The bare BOB board is available for purchase but is not presently being marketed aggressively on EBay.
